The Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations 2010

Made: 30-03-2010 | Laid: 06-04-2010 | Forced: 27-04-2010

Overview

The Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations 2010 require you to protect the eyes and skin of your workers from exposure to hazardous sources of artificial optical radiation (AOR). AOR includes light emitted from all artificial sources in all its forms, including ultraviolet, infrared and laser beams. It excludes sunlight.

Artificial light can be harmful to workers unless protective measures are in place, whether from general lighting, equipment or from a work process. The guidance linked below will help you decide what you need to do to protect your workers and comply with the Regulations. It gives examples of safe sources of artificial optical radiation that require no further action and examples of hazardous sources of AOR that could harm workers, giving the types of activities where they are used.
