The Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work Regulations 2016

Made: 17-05-2016 | Laid: 23-05-2016 | Forced: 01-07-2016

Overview

The Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work Regulations 2016 (CEMFAW Regulations) impose duties on employers to assess their workers' potential exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) as far as action levels (ALs) and exposure limit values (ELVs) are concerned.

As part of managing the health and safety of your business, employers already have duties under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (MHSW), to take reasonable steps to prevent harm in the workplace, including any risks arising from exposure to EMFs.

An EMF is produced whenever a piece of electrical or electronic equipment such as a computer, mobile phone, electric vehicle, welding equipment or arc furnace is used. Health effects from exposure include vertigo, nausea, an irregular heartbeat, shocks and burns.
