Employment Rights Act 2025

Made: 18-12-2025 | Laid: 18-12-2025 | Forced: 18-12-2025

Overview

The Employment Rights Act 2025 delivers the most significant reform of UK employment law in a generation. It strengthens worker protections, expands statutory entitlements, reforms dismissal and redundancy rules, enhances protections against harassment, and establishes a new, centralised labour market enforcement framework.

The Act amends the Employment Rights Act 1996 and related legislation to address insecure work, workplace fairness, equality, and enforcement. It applies across Great Britain (with some Northern Ireland provisions) and places enhanced compliance obligations on employers, employment businesses and public bodies.

Benefits of compliance:

  • Reduces risk of employment tribunal claims and enforcement action.
  • Improves workforce stability, engagement and retention.
  • Strengthens ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) and ISO 37301 (compliance management).
  • Supports fair work, equality and ethical governance objectives.
  • Improves audit readiness and HR governance maturity.
