Overview


Only 'approved' aircraft may carry dangerous goods. If you wish to send or carry dangerous goods by air, then those goods need to be carried by a CAA approved operator, and have all the applicable approvals documented by a 'Shipper', and all goods need to be safely packed in appropriate packaging. 

Operators (aircraft operators) must gain approval in writing from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), who will need to be satisfied that you are competent to carry them safely. With a few exceptions, Operators may not carry any dangerous goods on board aircraft are known to be suspect or capable of causing a risk to health, safety, property or the environment when carried by air.

Please Note: The Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) Regulations 2002 revoke and replace the following legislation:

  • The Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) Regulations 1994
  • The Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) (Amendment) Regulations 1996
  • The Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) (Second Amendment) Regulations 1997
  • The Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) (Third Amendment) Regulations 1998
  • The Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) (Fourth Amendment) Regulations 2001
