Overview


This Act sets out the roles and responsibilities for the different organisations and individuals in regards of Town and Country Planning. This includes applicants when they are applying for permission to develop the built environment. These include: 

  • Planning Authorities
  • The Rights of owners
  • Enforcement process and special controls

This Act divides planning into forward planning and development control, which sets out the future strategy of the local authority, and controls current development. Under this Act (except in London and other Metropolitan areas) a development plan as produced by the local planning authority has two parts, the structure plan drawn up by the county council and a local plan drawn up by the district council.
