The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999

Made: 01-04-1999 | Laid: 14-04-1999 | Forced: 01-07-1999

Overview

These Regulations play a role in protecting public health, safeguarding water supplies and promoting the efficient use of water within customers’ premises across the UK. To do so, they set legal requirements for the design, installation, operation and maintenance of plumbing systems, water fittings and water-using appliances. They also have a specific purpose to prevent misuse, waste, undue consumption or erroneous measurement of water and, most importantly, to prevent contamination of drinking water.

The Regulations apply to any water fitting installed or used, or to be installed or used, in premises to which water is or is to be supplied by a water undertaker.

These Regulations help to prevent contaminated water being pulled into the mains water system in the event of an incident at a premises (e.g. a drop in water pressure could cause locally stored water in a premises to be siphoned back into the Main).
