Made: 25-06-1986 | Laid: 18-07-1986 | Forced: 11-08-1986

Overview

The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 set standards for the manufacture, construction, and maintenance of all road vehicles.

This Regulation will apply to your organisation if:

  • You operate buses, minibuses or load-carrying vehicles (e.g. Road Haulage)
  • You repair, maintain or service such vehicles
  • You manufacture or sell such vehicles.

The Regulation has several parts that cover:

  • Vehicle specifications that must be adhered to
  • Testing and Inspection Requirements
  • Controls that must be applied to vehicles by their owners and operators.

There are many such controls that are needed, including the fitting of fire equipment, provision of first aid kits. In addition, the controls extend to end-users, such as how hazardous materials are carried (especially in minibuses), and requiring driver to turn off engines whilst stationary, and that passengers are carried safely.
