These Regulations create legally binding targets in the priority area of biodiversity, with the aim of halting the decline in species abundance by 2030, reversing the decline in species abundance by 2042, reducing the risk of species extinction by 2042 as well as restoring or creating in excess of 500,000 hectares of wildlife-rich habitat outside of current protected sites by 2042.
