Overview


Regulation (EU) No 2017/821 for the laying down of supply chain due diligence obligations for Union importers of tin, tantalum and tungsten, their ores, and gold originating from conflict-affected and high-risk areas seeks to ensure that

  1. EU importers of 3TG (tin, tungsten, tantalum and gold) meet international responsible sourcing standards, set by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
  2. Global and EU smelters and refiners of 3TG source responsibly
  3. The link between conflict and the illegal exploitation of minerals
  4. An end is brought to the exploitation and abuse of local communities, including mine workers, and support local development.

The regulation covers minerals and metals of:

  • Gold
  • Tin
  • Tungsten
  • Tantalum.

These are collectively known as 3TG. The regulation requires EU companies in the supply chain to ensure they import these minerals and metals from responsible and conflict-free sources only.
