The Protection of Badgers Act 1992 consolidates and strengthens previous legislation (the Badgers Act 1973, the Badgers Act 1991 and the Badgers (Further Protection Act 1991). Under the 1992 Act it is a serious offence to kill, injure or take a badger, or to damage or interfere with a sett unless a licence is obtained from a statutory authority. The law was passed and aimed specifically at badger-baiters, but can also apply to property developers, farmers, game-keepers, home-owners and pest-control companies to name but a few.
