The Packaging (Essential Requirements) Regulations 2015 set out the essential requirements that packaging must meet before being placed on the market, and also set limits on heavy metal concentration levels in packaging and packaging components.
It provides for some derogations such as the heavy metal content in glass packaging and plastic crates. These derogations will be applicable to manufacturers of such packaging.
The regulations also provide powers for enforcement authorities to ensure these requirements are met, and set offences and penalties for non-compliance. This includes giving the power of entry to a regulatory body to monitor compliance.
