The current legal framework for compulsory motor insurance is set out in the Road Traffic Act 1988, which supplements and amends that framework for automated vehicles, as well as supplements recent EU legislation which has now been implemented in the UK following IP completion day. This Act is intended, in part, to address interoperability of charge points by mandating standard connectors for vehicles.
Furthermore, it improves access to charge points by mandating that charge points are capable of being accessed without memberships, as well as requiring that certain information is made available on charge points. The provisions of the Act also provide delegated powers to build on these improvements.
