The Agriculture Act 1970 introduced measures to protect purchases of fertilisers and feeding stuffs by providing detailed information on the composition of such products. This Act gives local authorities powers to sample from feed mills, farms and retailers, and lays down strict controls on composition and labelling of fertilisers and feeding stuffs. The Act also gives power to Trading Standards Officers to undertake most of the sampling carried out at the mills, and any samples that are found to be outside the limits of variance required, may result in the producer being prosecuted.
